mother feeding newborn baby with a bottle sitting on a chair in nursery room

Photographing newborn babies is always both exciting and quite nerve-wracking. Exciting, because I love capturing the tiny little humans and their parents. Nerve-wracking, because they are only so little for a short while and I better get it right!

For this One Frame feature, I chose this shot from a newborn photography session in Dorking. I love the quietness and contentedness of this image, as the mum went about feeding her new baby girl. It gives the view a little peek into the nursery, as if we were standing right there in the doorway.

I always make sure I include the feeding pictures into all my newborn photography sessions, whether it’s breastfeeding or bottle feeding. That is such a huge part of caring for the newborn baby, and something that, at times, feels like a neverending slog.

And yet, it ends soon enough, and then you are left longing for those minutes – or hours – of holding your tiny baby close to you, feeling their warmth and savouring that precious newborn baby smell. That’s where these newborn photographs really come in – a perfect time capsule, allowing you to relive those first few months.
