Photographing families in their homes is my favourite things to do – and it’s just as well given how unpredictable British weather can be. At home, everyone can relax and be themselves, which is especially important when you have younger kids.
For this photoshoot, I’ve headed to North West London’s Belsize Park. The family had just come back from a gap year following the birth of their second child, and were keen to capture and celebrate the family time at home with their children before the parents returned to work – and their two boys to school and nursery.
We started bright and early in the morning, with both boys just waking up, followed by a play at home and in the garden, a spot of baking chocolate brownies (which is always a fun thing to do with the kids – just so long as you’re happy with some pretty messy interactions being captured) followed by lunch, and it was time for me to leave.
This picture of Ben is one of my most favourites from our time together – as he was trying to escape being changed into day clothes. This totally unstaged, spontaneous frame says so much about his character, the things that he likes – and a toy cooking glove and a runny nose only add to the story.
