For this instalment of the Impressions, I decided to pick images from a single day back in January, when I spent some time with my family back in Russia.

It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced the joy of winter in St Petersburg. Contrary to popular belief, in my hometown the temperatures don’t plummet to -30C and stay that way throughout the winter months. Instead, the weather changes almost daily, and after a great snowfall a thaw can come equally quickly, only to be followed by a massive freeze the next day… Driving in these conditions becomes a risky business to say the least, but now you know why I have this smug look on my face when I’m driving the deserted London roads in the half an inch of snow that British weather so very occasionally throws at us.

I digress.

The weather being so unpredictable, it was  difficult to find a good day for the expedition into the suburbs, and to enjoy the beautiful snowy landscapes, but I’m glad we managed to do it. Here are the 8 of my favourite images from that day – and a little bonus one at the end, to disclose my working conditions. Enjoy!

And as promised, my working conditions. A knee-deep in snow. Fun! :)

‘Impressions‘ is a creative project by an eclectic group of female photographers from around the globe. We aim to share the inspiration behind what we do through our bi-monthly posts.
Every other month, we will be sharing 8 images that tell the story of what inspired us in the previous weeks: our families, nature, weather, or maybe even work itself! We are free to explore the meaning of ‘impressions’, and it is likely to change month to month.

Please continue through the circle and see what Vinita Salome, a portrait photographer in the Netherlands is sharing this month. Then continue clicking through the circle till you make it back here – I hope you enjoy all our posts!
