Back in September I travelled to New York for the very first time. It was scary and exciting and I shared a little bit of my street photography snapshots on the blog already, but this one’s all about the wonderful family I photographed while there.

These guys have been my clients since I don’t remember when, and I first photographed them when their youngest was still in her mummy’s belly! Back then they lived in Hampstead in London and we spent many wonderful hours capturing their growing family both at their home, at the nearby Hampstead Heath, and also in Central London for a farewell London photoshoot, just before they moved back to the States about 5 years ago!

So this reunion was so delightful, especially since when I emailed them asking if they’d be interested in a family shoot while I was over the answer was an immediate yes (with many exclamation marks!). I couldn’t believed how much the kids have grown, and it was great meeting their newest member of the family, Nya the cat (named after a Ninjago character).

The week I was in New York was unbearably hot, and so for their half-day shoot we headed to Governor’s Island first thing in the morning – a place where these guys spend a lot of time, with the ferry being only a short walk away from their home in Brooklyn Heights.

It was fun walking and exploring before the rest of New York City made their way over, and we ended the very hot day with a dip in the paddling fountains and a huge heap of coloured ice and ice cream.

With me being a tourist and the family being local it was a fun challenge to capture their time at one of the most iconic places in NYC (the views over Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty are magnificent from there) without too much focus on the landmarks (like I do in my vacation photoshoots here in London) but still giving it the sense of location and space.

If your family wants to venture outside of London – whether it’s a hop across the channel, a city break in Europe, or further afield, and you’d like me to capture your adventures, please get in touch, I’d love to chat and find out more about your plans and how I can help you capture priceless memories of you exploring the world together.
